Naturopathic Doctors Can Order Blood Work

Naturopathic Doctors can order blood work in Alberta. The tests we run may be similar to what your family doctor may run, for example an iron test. We also run blood tests that cannot be done through your family doctor without special exemptions, such as Vitamin D Testing through private labs.

Some common blood tests we run include:

• Thyroid

• Thyroid Antibodies (Hashimotos Thyroiditis Testing)

• Cholesterol/Lipid Panel

• Celiac Testing

• Many More

The majority of our testing is run through Dynalife Labs or Alberta Precision Laboratories depending on where the patient lives. For blood testing, patients will need to have a consultation with their Naturopathic Doctor prior to receiving their requisition for their tests.

Testing ordered by a Naturopathic Doctor is not covered by Alberta Health Services, so it is often an out of pocket expense that may or may not be covered by extended health benefits. We collect payment for the blood work at Flow. Once you have your requisition you can book an appointment at Dynalife. If you require testing sooner rather than later or on a specific day of your menstrual cycle, it can be hard to get an appointment that lines up with your schedule. Many Dynalife locations offer a “save my place” function where you can choose your preferred location and save a place in line for a specific time.
